When was the last time you measured something important by eye? You wouldn’t inflate tires without a pressure gauge, follow a recipe without kitchen scales, or buy furniture without a tape measure. So why do adaptive racing wheelchair athletes neglect to accurately check their wheel alignment?
Wheel alignment, or “tracking” is potentially one of, if not, the most important adjustments you can make on a race wheelchair. If the rear wheels are not as close to parallel as possible they cause unnecessary friction (tire scrub) between the wheels and the ground; not what you want while racing.
By using the Dynolight Tracking® Wheel Alignment Tool to take 4 measurements on your race chair in either millimetres or inches, you can accurately adjust the rear wheels to reduce both tyre scrub and crabbing. “Crabbing” happens when the rear wheels are parallel but the distance between the inside of the rear wheels to the T-Bar is not equal. Our tool now makes precise wheel alignment adjustments possible by using numbers from a gauge rather than judging ‘by eye’.
