Solid PU tyres are manufactured using MCP – micro-cellular polyurethane – which is moulded with a “skin” that forms the tread and smooth sidewalls of the tyres.
Polyurethane is resilient, abrasion resistant and hard-wearing for long life and low maintenance. They are also non-marking and have the benefit of being puncture free – they won’t go flat.
These tyres are normally heavier than their pneumatic counterparts, and just like a motor vehicle, worn treads will mean that the tyres lose their grip – tyres should be replaced before the tread wears down significantly.
